Something Strange

I was at the library this morning and I saw the strangest poster, advertising the "Tom Cat Neuter Fest." At first I thought it was the weird name of a band or something, but it really was for a cat-neutering event. I thought it was strange to call it a "fest," haha!

Kitchen Remodel Pictures

Here are some pictures of our recent kitchen project. I took the "after" pictures last night, so usually it is a little brighter in the kitchen. We're so glad to be done with the old yellow counters!

Michael Jackson Retrospective

I was sad to hear that Michael Jackson died today. Jon and I were about to take Wanda for a walk when Jon's brother, Geoff, texted us that Michael Jackson died. We were like, "what?!?" and ran back inside to look it up on the news. Sad day for pop music!!!

Here are some of my MJ favorites as YouTube links.
You got to have the classic Jackson Five, starting with "ABC." Go Motown Records!

Okay this is pretty sad, because Michael's singing about how "We Don't Have to Change At All." Wish he would've listened to his own lyrics! This is from one of the best kids' films ever, "Free to be You and Me."

Here's Michael back when he was dreamy singing "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough." I love this music video and its crazy backgrounds!

Speaking of crazy videos, did anyone else freak out the first time they saw the end of the "Black or White" music video? I LOVED this video when I was younger. Whenever I was at a friend's house that was lucky enough to have cable, we'd watch MTV and I would secretly hope that this video would play, haha :)

Ah, there are too many good MJ songs - I could go on for a LONG time!

Even if one doesn't like Michael Jackson as a person, I don't think anyone can deny his creative genius - he's kind of like the Wagner of our day and age. I hope we can rock out sometime in the afterlife!

Kitchen Update

The wallpaper has been down for a couple weeks now and the cabinet drawers are finished. We have gotten rid of the old countertops and sink and yesterday we FINALLY finished getting the old adhesive off of the walls (from the old, ugly, laminate backsplash). Today we cleaned up a LOT of dust and cut some backerboard for the new backsplash and we'll put it up tomorrow and then soon we'll be painting the ceiling and walls!

If saving money is the new popular, then my family like Brangelina or something

The other day, after living with me for a little over a year, occasionally reading my family members' blogs, and hearing funny stories of my sister's resale shopping trips, Jon said something like "Is EVERYONE in your family into frugality?" and after thinking about it, I realized yes, we all are! :) I love it that we all like getting good deals and being good stewards of money and such. And we were into getting good deals WAY before it was popular, hahaha. I keep seeing all of these stories on the news about how you can save money, and the ideas on the news are things we've been doing for years! The newspeople are like, oh wow, did you know about coupons, or resale, or turning off the lights when you leave a room? Hahaha, that's not news to me! We're so trendy :)

Anniversary Fun!

Today is Jon and my anniversary (okay grammar police, I'm not sure if "Jon and my" is correct, does anyone know?)! We're just about to take Wanda to the park. Then we're going to play a round of disc golf at the MSU course and later we're going to plant a tree. Tonight we're going out to eat at a fancy-pants restaurant. Happy Anniversary to us, haha :)

Done Scraping!

We finally finished taking down the wallpaper yesterday afternoon! Jon and I are NOT fans of wallpaper (or, more precisely, wallpaper glue). The kitchen already looks WAY bigger without the busy, ugly wallpaper. Now the fun begins of prepping the cabinets and then PAINTING them!!! :)
